First edition, sole impression, presentation copy inscribed by the author, one of 1250 copies; 8vo; publisher's red cloth, titles to upper board and spine gilt; no printed dust jacket was issued. A superb copy. One of a series of little keepsakes produced annually to mark this lecture series. With the author's signed presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, 'To the Prince & the Princess with love Alfred Xmas 1949'. The recipients were Paul Gallico and his wife Pauline Gariboldi.
