First edition, first impression. Signed by the author on the title page. Dr Marie Stopes (1880-1958), though best known today for her contributions to palaeontology, her pioneering work on birth control, and her manual Married Love (1918), was also a prolific writer of novels, poems and fairy stories. The dust jacket exists in two known states. The first includes Arthur Rackham's frontispiece on the front cover and is priced at 5s. A "cheap edition" is advertised in the Times Literary Supplement on 26 September 1929 at 2s. 6d. This copy has the second state jacket. Octavo. Colour frontispiece with tissue guard by Arthur Rackham. Original grey cloth, spine and front cover lettered in blue, top edge blue. With dust jacket. Spine slightly skewed, edges of covers slightly browned, some light foxing and browning; jacket toned, extremities a little worn with minor loss, front panel split with tape repair to verso, price integral to spine; a very good copy in a good jacket.
