Sigmund Freud.

First edition, deluxe issue, number 88 of 98 copies signed by Steadman on the copyright page in pencil. Steadman takes both illustration and authorial duties for this unorthodox biography of Sigmund Freud. He writes in the foreword, "this book grew out of my desire to illustrate a series of classic Jewish jokes. not long after, I discovered Freud's Jokes and Their Relation to eh Unconscious (1905) and from then on there was no turning back." Quarto. Illustrations throughout. Original white leather, titles to spine and front cover silver, marbled endpapers, edges sprinkled brown. With the publisher's slipcase. Minor rubbing, faint spots to first few leaves: a near-fine copy.
