First edition, inscribed to Ralph Gibson and with his ex libris stamp on p2; 4to (337 x 261 mm, 13¼ x 10¼ in); black-and-white photographs and text by Roy DeCarava, creasing to one corner; black endpapers, black cloth-covered boards, spine and upper side stamped in black and silver, lower in black only, printed dust-jacket, light wear and rubbing, DeCarava's stationery laid in, an excellent copy; [200]pp. presentation copy, inscribed to Ralph Gibson: 'To Ralph. 12-02-01 / Roy DeCarava'. Despite Roy DeCarava conceiving this series of photographs as a maquette in the early 1960s, it remained unpublished until this edition in 2001. His subject is Harlem, New York and Jazz music. 'This is a book about people, about jazz, and about things.
