xii, 222pp. With a half-title, an engraved portrait frontispiece, and an additional engraved title page executed by T. O. Barlow. Original publisher's richly gilt-tooled calf, A.E.G. Lightly rubbed, upper joint split. Recent bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst to FEP, frontispiece and engraved title damp-stained. A presumed presentation copy, inked inscription to FFEP: 'Henry Barlow / with the love of his affectionate / Cousin Lizzy / Liverpool / 4. 14. 50'. The sole edition of a collection of sentimental verse, 'written during brief intervals of leisure in the life of a busy mother', by Liverpool-based Quaker poet, Elizabeth Hadfield, of whom little is known. The British Friend (April, 1855. p.98) reviewed the work favourably, noting that although Hadfield's religious sentiments are unexceptional, 'her verses flow sweetly'. Size: 12mo.
