Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the 1909 legislative session in California, revealing the strategies and tactics employed by both reform-minded representatives and established political forces. The author meticulously details how the political machine, despite being a minority, skillfully exploited committee assignments, delayed tactics, and procedural maneuvers to obstruct progressive legislation and promote their own agenda. By analyzing the interplay between reform advocates and the entrenched machine, the book provides insights into the dynamics of political power and the challenges faced by reformers seeking to enact meaningful change within a system designed to favor the status quo. Through its examination of specific initiatives, including the anti-racetrack gambling bill, the direct primary bill, and various railroad regulation measures, the book not only sheds light on this particular historical episode but also offers valuable lessons for understanding the complexities of legislative processes and the ongoing struggle for political reform. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9781331296959_0
