[Drama] FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, first impression. Octavo (21 x 13cm), pp.94; [2]. Publisher's yellow cloth with red titles to spine. With the photographic dust-jacket, priced at 9/6. Actor Charles Lewson's copy, with his ownership signature to free endpaper and inscribed to him by a fellow thespian on half title. Related newsclipping tucked in. Contents clean, endleaves rather toned, offset browning from newspaper, jacket lightly worn with some toning. Very good. Beckett's monumental drama littered with religious, ethical, philosophical, classical, psychoanalytical and biographical references. First published in French in 1952, it is rated by the National Theatre as 'the most significant English language play of the 20th century'. Charles Lewson (b.1935) appeared in 84 Charing Cross Road (1987) and Evita (1996).
