Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the heart of the American West, capturing the essence of cowboy life through its most authentic expression: language. The author, a lifelong devotee of the cowboy vernacular, takes readers on a journey through the linguistic landscape of the range, cow camp, and trail. Emerging from the solitude and vastness of the West, cowboy language is a unique blend of Spanish, Native American, and frontier influences. The author meticulously traces the origins and evolution of these terms, highlighting the cowboy's ingenuity in crafting a vocabulary that is both practical and colorful. With wit and insight, the author explores the cowboy's penchant for metaphor, exaggeration, and humor, revealing a deep connection to the natural world and a philosophy rooted in self-reliance and resilience. This book is more than just a lexicon; it's a window into a vanishing way of life. As the open range fades into memory, the author's work serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of the cowboy and the power of language to shape and reflect our world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9780282601331_0
