1st printing of the first edition of the poet's second collection SIGNED on the title page with a green ballpoint pen, DATED Mar/08, the YEAR of PUBLICATION, and inscribed to writer Daniel David Moses, who contributed the blurb printed on the back cover of the book. The dedication reads, "Daniel I can't thank you enough -- for your knowledge, your gentleness, your role as a mentor to so many love Sharron." The late Moses was a Canadian aboriginal poet and playwright, and this book is among a collection of books by Canadian poets obtained by this bookseller which are dedicated to him with sincere gratitude and admiration. At the time of listing, this was the only copy of the book signed or unsigned offered for sale on the site. A trade paper original with card covers. A tight, well-preserved copy. Slight wear to the back corner of the crown of the spine, and the top corner of the back cover is ever-so-slightly turned. Ghost of pencil erasure at top edge of the dedication page. Proulx-Turner's first book of poetry - what the auntys say (2002) - was a finalist for the League of Canadian Poets' Gerald Lampert Prize for best first book of poetry.

I am told I have her hands, and the hands of exilda dufort-lafrance, my great-great-grandmother. I have passed these hands to my daughter, barb, and to my granddaughters, jessinia and mazie. these hands of mine love to write, and I am told my great-grandmother, rosina lafrance-proulx, was a poet, that she talked to the trees, to the plants and animals. and now she talks to me. more than fifteen years ago, rosina's voice in mine, I woke up to the words she is reading her blanket with her hands, the birthing of the poems in this book.

About the Author

Sharron Proulx-Turner is a member of the Métis Nation of Alberta. Originally from the Ottawa River valley, she is from Mohawk, Algonquin, Wyandot, Ojibwe, Mi kmaw, French, Scottish and Irish ancestry. She is a two-spirit mom of three adult children, Graham, Barb and Adrian, mother-in-law to Harold, and nokomis to Willow, Jessinia and Mazie. Her previously published memoir, Where the Rivers Join (1995), written under a pseudonym, was a finalist for the Edna Staebler award for creative non-fiction, and her second book, what the auntys say (2002), was a finalist for the League of Canadian Poets Gerald Lampert Prize for best first book of poetry. Sharron's work appears in several anthologies and journals. She has an upcoming book, she walks for days/ inside a thousand eyes/ (a two-spirit story), with Turnstone Press, Fall, 2008.
