Item description from seller

8vo. Half leather note book 39 pp text, with many further blanks. Cooper spent most of the 1820s in foreign travel, investigating the longitude and latitude of the places he visited and their conditions for astronomical observation. At Naples in summer of 1820, he was "induced to turn his attention towards Egypt" by Sir William Drummond, who "complained of a want of accuracy in all the copies" of the hieroglyphic zodiacs of Dendera and Esneh and "prevailed upon me to pass a few months in collecting some more correct data"In this volume, signed on the pastedown "Edward Ja. Cooper October 1st 1820", Cooper has collected information from a variety of sources to aid his objectives in Egypt. A volume of views illustrative of his journey was privately published in 1824.
