1. ANS, One page, 8vo, punchholes, good condition. He asks to see Ford's entry concerning Victorian Illustrated Books in the latter's draft catalogue of Percy Muir/Elkin Mathews archive, asking him to "give me your ideas of what is needed - I'd be glad to help". He adds a request for any number of the magazine "Liiliput". He's "trying to build up a complete run". 2. ALS, one page, 4to, very good condition. He expresses uncertainy as to what Ford requires of him but has a copy of the book "with various of my annotations & corrections - on a selfish personal note, I see that in his index he omitted at least five mentions of my name". He says he was fond of Percy Muit who did him a favour once ("his notes on Morris's Country Seats"). He then speculates on the paternity of Robert Harling [typographer, designer, journalist and novelist] saying he resembles Muir. He "never dared to ask Barbara Kaye [Muir]. He concludes "Do you want me to write a general note about the book itself? or about one or two particular chapters if I find something to say? A sligtly tall order as Ihave been 'out of' victoriana' for years now, & am at present working on the 20th C. Please let me know." The former signed "Ruari McLean" the latter "Ruari McC".
