Limited edition, one of 100 signed copies, large 4to (31.8 x 24.7 cm); signed by Anthony on the limitation, 96 black-and-white plates tipped in on beige paper with black-printed captions; publisher's red morocco-backed boards with cream buckram sides, spine lettered directly in gilt, top-edge cut, tail-edge trimmed, deckled fore-edges; a little rubbed with a few small scuffs to spine, spine lightly sunned; booklabel of Ant. N.M. Laarhoven to half-title, a very good copy. One of 100 copies, signed by Gordon Athony. Anthony was one of the period's great ballet photographers. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Eduard Manet (illustrator). 1st Edition. 20pp of text, 96 tipped-in plates. Blue buckram boards, ivory buckram spine backing with gilt lettering. Boards are sound and square, spine somewhat darkened, small blemish on front free endpaper, introductory text and all plates are in clean and very sound condition. Magnificent camera studies by Gordon Anthony. A frontispiece portrait of MIchael Fokine, to whom the book is dedicated. Introduction by Arnold Haskell. A very attractive book. Condition: GOOD. First edition. Contains 96 striking black and white photographs by Gordon Anthony - most depict the dancers performing, but there also many close-up portraits. Photographs are tipped onto the recto of brown paper leaves with the name of the dancer and the ballet underneath. Frontispiece portrait of the Diaghilev company's choreographer Michael Fokine, introduction by Arnold Haskell. Among the dancers are Anna Adrianova, Irina Baronova, Edouard Borovansky,Anton Dolin, Alexandra Danilova, Alexandra Denisova, Frederick Franklin, Tamara Grigorieva, Yura Lazovsky, David Lichine, Serge Lifar, Alicia Markova, Leonide Massine, Marc Platoff, Tatiana Riabouchinska, Mia Slavenska, Tamara Toumanova and others. A very heavy and large volume - 10 1/4 inches by 12 1/2 inches. Laid in is a tri-fold brochure "Sol Hurok presents the Original Ballet Russe" - undated but presumably circa 1941. Good overall in blue buckram boards with a white buckram spine with gilt lettering. Some soiling to the covers, darkening to the spine, wear to the corners and ends of spine, previous owner's name dated 1941. All of the plates are in fine condition, binding is sturdy.
