Large paper, first thus, of Sterne's novel of an Englishman abroad, owned and annotated by the writer and Bloomsbury group member, Roger Senhouse, bearing his book label. Full speckled calf with faded gilt decoration; upper hinge very tender. Inner dentelles over marbled endpapers; Senhouse's label to front pastedown. Pencil ownership inscription on second flyleaf: 'Roger Senhouse C. p181/2 where he shows his folly'. This refers to the passage at the end of the novel in which Yorick negotiates separate sleeping arrangements with the maid from Lyon. No further annotation to the text but a little more algebraic pencil annotation on the final flyleaf, perhaps in Senhouse's hand. A large paper copy with the watermark 'E & P'. With 6 plates engraved by Birrell after Stothard, various dates in 1792; pp184. OCLC: 931233139 Roger Senhouse was involved with the Bloomsbury set, the lover of Lytton Strachey, and later the director of Secker and Warburg where he published George Orwell.
