A collection of 2 photographs and approximately 17 handwritten documents, which range from quickly jotted notes to full-length letters, written by the poet Harry Fainlight to his landlady, Esther Whitby who was letting Harry a small garden cell on Harmood Street, in Northwest London, for thirty shillings a week at the time. This collection also includes one letter to Esther from Harry's sister, the renowned poet and close friend of Sylvia Plath, Ruth Fainlight. These numerous missives, which include a letter Fainlight wrote on prison stationary while on remand at H.M. Prison, Jebb Avenue, Brixton, London, a note addressed from a psychiatric hospital in Scotland, letters from his parents' home in Sussex, letters from the cottage where he died in Wales, and personal notes left around the house in London where Fainlight rented a room from Whitby [to whom these letters & notes are addressed].
