Burton Silverman's first one man exhibition took place in 1956 at the Davis Galleries in New York City. Since that time Mr. Silverman has had 27 solo shows in New York , Boston, Philadelphia and Washington , DC. He has appeared in numerous national and international exhibitions including the Mexico City Museum of Art, the Royal Academy of Art in London, the National Portrait Gallery, the National Academy of Design and regional exhibits throughout the US. He has won 33 major prizes from annual exhibitions at the National Academy of Design, the American Watercolor Society and the Butler Institute of American Art. The most recent of these was ,the Berkelson Prize in 1997 and Jos.Isidor Medal in 1993 from the National Academy of Design.the Silver Medal from the AWS in 1995. His paintings are represented in a dozen public collections including the Brooklyn Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The New Britain Museum, the Mint Museum, the National Museum of Ameri! can Art and the National Portrait Gallery. His work is included in numerous private collections both in the US and Europe.
He has also been commissioned to paint portraits for the covers of Time Magazine and has drawn portraits over 125 persons featured in the Profiles segment of the New Yorker.
Mr. Silverman has also authored magazine articles for various publications including Art News, Book World, (the Liiterary Supplement of the former Herald Tribune) the Artists Magazine and the American Arts Quarterly. His two books on painting have reached audiences in Europe, Asia and South America.
Her has had a long and distinguished career in illustration producing work for virtually all the major magazines in America as well as for a host of institutional clients, that included IBM . GE, ABC , CBS, to name but a few.
