English electronic engineer (1849-1945), inventor of thermionic valve. Widely considered to be 'the founder of electronics'. All three items good though grubby and on slightly discoloured paper. Item three dog-eared and grubby in top left-hand corner. All signed 'J. A. Fleming' and bearing the Society's stamp. ITEM ONE (two pages, quarto, 15 November 1915, University College, Gower St, to Wood, docketed): On the subject of a paper he proposes to give to the Society entitled 'The Organisation of Scientific Research'. 'You may rely on my discretion in handling the subject, but it is no use to prophesy smooth things under present Conditions and carefully worded criticism is the very life and soul of improvement.' ITEM TWO (one page, 12mo, 25 November 1915, on letterhead of The Pender Electrical Laboratory, University College, Gower St, to Wood): Confirming a date for giving the paper. ITEM THREE (one page, 12mo, 21 February 1916, on Pender Electrical Laboratory letterhead, to Wood): Acknowledges the fifty copies of the Society's Journal for 18 February 1916 sent by Wood. These, together with the fifty already sent, 'will provide all I need. There is no need to send any more.'. …
