Item description from seller

[Science Fiction] SIGNED COLLECTOR'S EDITION. Octavo (26 x 18cm), pp.xii; 98 [2]. With six colour plates, and numerous in-text illustrations by Mugnaini throughout the text. SIGNED by the Science-Fiction author and writer of the introduction BRIAN ALDISS in black ink to a publisher's bookplate affixed to the front pastedown. Publisher's grey full morocco, with designs and titles tooled in gilt to boards and spine. All edges gilt. Light handling, otherwise a fine copy. 'Wells's first full-length work of fiction, and now considered a foundational text in the history of Science Fiction, the Time Traveller invents a device for travelling through time and journeys to the year 802,701. Expecting to see a more advanced civilisation, he is horrified to discover that humanity has degenerated into the species of the Eloi and the Morlocks, the descendants of the rich and the poor: a terrible warning for humanity if it continues to ignore economic inequality' [British Library].
