Autograph material, written at various times by the novelist and dramatist Mary Russell Mitford, 1787-1855. 1. AL to an unnamed correspondent, no date, asking for the money due to her for an article in 'your Friendship's Offering'. By inference, this is to someone in the offices of Messrs Smith & Elder. 2. ALS 'To Madam', no date, denying any knowledge of a cook by the name given to her, and refuting any claim of having given a recommendation. 3. ALS, undated, written on a torn fragment, withdrawing from an arrangement, and discussing gardening. 4. AL in the third person, no date except 'Friday', thanking Mr Spence for his note. 5. Autograph MS. signed; a six-line poem beginning Fair Spring! Beneath thy feet the grass is set. Dated Swallowfield, 18 June 1852. 6. Autograph list on the verso of an address panel, listing several books including works by Thackeray and Dickens's David Copperfield. 7. Three lines and a signature cut from the end of an ALS.
