Asou'r to cross an ocean for the first time, I feel, no doubt, the possibility of never returning, more fully than those to whom voyaging is familiar. On this occasion, I have set myself to do, as far as possible, every thing which in case of sudden death it would be desirable that I had done; and in partien lar to leave upon my conscience, as far as may be, no obligation unfulfilled. Along with making my will, I have gathered this little volume for the press - all but the first article, which I have written in two days and two nights, amidst the preparation for my departure, which takes place to-morrow morning, the bustle of a new-york boarding-house, and the kind parting calls of affectionate friends.
