Excerpt from In the Matter of Application of Jacob A. Conover, for the Extension of His Letters Patent for Improvements in Wood Splitting Machines: Dated May 15, 1855
And deponent further says, that about the time of the extension of his said patent by the Commissioner of Patents, _a number of the persons holding license from him in the City of New York, held a meeting, and on consultation together offered deponent for his rights under said extension for the City of New York; that deponent believing the same to be worth more, declined to accept such offer, but finally offered to take therefor, and failing to agree upon the terms, the matter was dropped.
