Published in 1821, this book is a record of the author's deep concern about the impact of the Corn Bill, which had a profound negative impact on British trade and agriculture. This book's focus centers on the problems and consequences of the current navigation and trade laws, particularly arguing that the laws as they stand unfairly burden British shipping. The author puts forth suggestions for reform, with an emphasis on the establishment of a general system of warehousing. Deeply researched and well-reasoned, this book provides a valuable critique of the economic climate of the time and gives insights into the issues faced by British maritime commerce during an era of significant change.
