The Institute of Chemistry was founded in October 1877, and was at first incorporated under the Companies' Acts.
In June, 1885, the Institute was Incorporated by Royal Charter for the following purposes, viz.
To promote the better education of persons desirous of qualifying themselves to be public and technical analysts and chemical advisers on scientific subjects.
