Excerpt from A Selection of the Most Celebrated Sermons of Martin Luther, Minister of the Gospel, and Principal Leader in the Protestant Reformation: Never Before Published in the United States; To Which Is Prefixed, a Biographical History of His Life
Luther's Sermons, after having been translated, were published in the year 1581, and republished in 1649. In consequence of the imperfection of the English language, when these Sermons were formerly published, it was found necessary to revise them, and correct the language; but in so doing, particular care has been taken to preserve precisely the original meaning.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is an extract from the writings of J. G. Burckhardt, a historian and theologian. It tells the life and character of Martin Luther, a crucial figure in the history of Christianity. It details the state of the church before Luther's time, which was characterized by darkness, ignorance, and superstition that eclipsed the light of the gospel. The author examines the papal system, which had taken the place of the word of God and led to the sale of indulgences, purgatory, relics, and other erroneous practices. The book goes on to explore Luther's role in initiating the reformation, shedding light on his 95 theses and the subsequent events that led to a division in the church. The depth of Luther's conviction and his willingness to stand against the prevailing power of the time are brought to life, providing valuable insights into the religious and historical context of that era.
