To these speakers who served their arts without monetary reward and then, at great additional expense in time and effort, revised their talks to fit the requirements of book form sincere thanks must be given. A special word of appreciation is due Philip Hofer, whose admirable summation of the four meetings was one of their out standing features and whose words, as they appear here, have suffered severely in color and content because of limitations of space; Mr. Hofer's generous acceptance of drastic editorial abridg ment matched in quality the excellence of the commentary with which he brought our meetings to a close.
