Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is an entertaining compendium of amusing anecdotes and witticisms drawn from the annals of the American pulpit. The author has culled these stories from various sources and offers them up as a testament to the often irreverent humor of the clergy throughout history. The book is divided into chapters covering the sharp repartee of ministers towards scoffers and disbelievers, the humorous mishaps that often occur in the course of religious services, and the clever and witty turns of phrase employed by famous preachers. The author also delves into the broader cultural context of these anecdotes, exploring how they reflect the social and religious mores of their time, and providing insights into the role of humor in religious life. Ultimately, this book is a celebration of the human spirit, and a reminder that even in the most solemn of settings, laughter can be a powerful force for good.
