This book explores the challenges facing the Methodist Episcopal Church in order to understand its relevance in contemporary times. It contends that the Church, despite its greatness and its enormous impact on society, has neglected its key mission, i.e. that of saving souls. While modern society has progressed in many areas, the book argues, the Church has failed to keep pace and engage in a meaningful way with critical human needs. Instead, it has become preoccupied with ecclesiastical politics and matters of individual advancement rather than the proclamation of the Christian message. This has led to a decline in the influence of the Church and a loss of its sense of purpose.
