Synopsis
This book argues against the practice of vivisection as it is permitted by law in England. The author provides a detailed indictment against the practice, and claims that the defenders of vivisection will not be able to provide a reasoned response to the arguments in this book. As the author's father, grandfather, and the famous poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge were all opponents of animal cruelty, the author argues that he has a personal and familial duty to carry on the fight against animal cruelty. The author goes on to argue that vivisection is unnecessary and unjustifiable and that, as a society, we should extend the protection of animals that already exists in law to include protection from vivisection.
