Excerpt from Les Auteurs Grecs<br/><br/>Vénus vient exposer aux spectateurs l'événement qui va se dé rouler sous leurs yeux, l'amour incestueux de Phèdre, et la mort mi sérable d'hippolyte qui doit venger la déesse des dédains du fier et farouche jeune homme. Aussitôt qu'elle s'est retirée on voit parai tre Hippolyte qui revient de la chasse suivi d'une troupe de com pagnons qui chantent en choeur un hymne en l'honneur de Diane. Lui  méme il s'avance vers la statue de Diane et lui pose sur la tête une couronne de feuillage, en faisant l'éloge de la Pudeur. Un de ses compagnons lui montre une statue de Vénus, et lui dit que toutes les divinités ont droit aux hommages des mortels. Hippolyte répond fiè rement que jamais il n'honorera une déesse dont les oeuvres s'accom plissent la nuit. Il sort et le serviteur, resté seul cqnjure la déesse d'oublier les téméraires paroles que son maitre vient de prononcer.
