A cette époque il n'affichait pas encore de théorie sociale ou antisociale bien déterminée. L'idée ne lui en vint que plus tard. Comme cette pièce de début était une oeuvre originale qui ne rappelait en rien les procédés alors en usage, M. Dumas promena pendant trois ans.
