L'objet des recherches contenues dans le présent mémoire est d'étudier les rôles que jouent les oscilla tions rapides et lentes d'une étincelle électrique dans la production des raies spectrales. Ces recherches sont basées sur la découverte faite par M. Schuster et moi, à savoir: que l'augmentation de la self - induction du circuit de décharge d'un condensateur est accompa gnée de transformations considérables dans le spectre de l'étincelle jaillissant entre les électrodes reliant les armatures du condensateur. Ajoutons cependant que M. Thalén avait déjà employé une bobine de self-in duction mais à noyau de fer et, comme nous aurons l'occasion de le montrer plus loin, le noyau de fer détruit les oscillations de la décharge qui sont précisé ment le facteur essentiel de nos recherches.
