This book presents an extraordinary epistolary exchange between the great French lyric poet, Jean-Baptiste Rousseau, and Claude Brossette, the renowned commentator on the works of Boileau. Their lettersâ"remarkable for their warmth, intelligence, and witâ"range widely across topics such as contemporary literary quarrels, the latest works by prominent authors, and reflections on the nature of poetry and criticism. The correspondence sheds light not only on the literary world of early 18th-century France, but also on the personal lives and characters of these two significant figures.
