Synopsis
This book is the first complete English translation of a journal by Nicolas Alaidon, a French priest who refused to swear allegiance to the French Revolution. Forced to flee France, Alaidon spent twelve years in exile, wandering from place to place in an effort to avoid capture. During his exile, Alaidon kept a journal, recently discovered in the Bibliothèque Nationale of France, which provides a valuable insight into the lives of refugee priests during the French Revolution and the hardships they endured. Alaidon's moving account of his experiences offers an intimate glimpse into one man's struggle to maintain his faith and to live a meaningful life in the face of adversity.
