These problems were further exacerbated by the rise of nationalism and militarism, which culminated in World War I. After World War I, Germany was saddled with heavy reparations and territorial losses, which further weakened its economy and political system. The author argues that the Treaty of Versailles, which ended the war, was a âDiktatâ that was imposed on Germany by the victorious Allies, and that it sowed the seeds of World War II. The author concludes by arguing that Germany needs to confront its past and make fundamental changes to its political and economic system in order to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.
