This book is a record of the initial volunteer enlistments for service in the French Revolutionary Wars, from decrees passed in June 1791 authorizing recruitment of auxiliaries and volunteers. The decrees set out the motivation behind the recruitment as fear among the old monarchies in Europe of the revolution in France. It provides detailed enrollment records, including names, ages, former occupations, and military experience for over 11,000 volunteers from eight of the Paris National Guard battalions.
