De même que l'on considère des tiges avec des dimensions transversales d'abord arbitraires, puis supposées très petites, il y a lieu de traiter ce qui est relatif à des plaques auxquelles on attribue d'abord une épaisseur finie, et ensuite une épaisseur très petite (infiniment petite). On arrive ainsi à des résultats qui comprennent ceux de la célèbre théorie de M. Kirchhoff sur les figures sonores (klangfiguren), et qui paraissent susceptibles d'applications var1ees, queiqu'à la vérité mon livre, bien que fort accru par l'a, n'offre souvent à cet égard que de simples indi cations. Ces indications, sur des sujets d'un pareil intérêt, seront, je l'espère, favorablement accueillies.
