Synopsis
This book by Louis Francois Elisabath Ramond covers the life, scientific observations, and political career of a distinguished author, geologist, and botanist. The author of this book, M. Le Baron Cuvier, gives a full character study of this natural philosopher from his origins as a treasurer's son to his life as a legislator who was also a humanist, always deploring government excesses. We also learn of his passions, such as botany and geology, being able to fully explore the latter when political strife forced him to take refuge in the Pyrenees mountains. This forced exile, however, gave him firsthand knowledge of the area, which he put to excellent use in the development of new techniques in mensuration of heights. The book details Ramond's philosophical as well as practical scientific contributions and honors him as an influential mind who successfully wore many hats in his lifetime.
