Excerpt from Zur Erklärung des Platonischen Dialogs Phädrus
Vgl. Hermann, Gesch. Der pi. Phil. S. 514 f. Steinharl W. S. 21. Suscmihl S. 275. Man findet die verschiedenen Erklarungen der Forscher nach Schleier macher übersichtlich zusammengestellt in der unter Anm. 2 erwähnten Schrift von Volquardsen S. 303 ff.ist. Es wird hierdurch als gerechtfertigt erscheinen, wenn ich ver suche, diese eigentliche und unmittelbarste Aufgabe der Erklärung des Dialogs, die Frage nämlich über seine Absicht und einheit liche Tendenz, von neuem zu behandeln, ohne dabei jene Ge gensätze in den Ueberzeugungen der Forscher über die Zeit der Abfassung zu berücksichtigen; die Beantwortung dieser Frage wird dann von selbst den Anlass geben, auf die gesammte literarische Thätigkeit Platons den Umblick zu erweitern. Wenn ich zu Ver einfachung der Darstellung nur Schleiermachers Erklärung des Phä drus namentlich erwähne, so darf ich doch versichern, dass ich die andern, mir bekannt gewordenen Erklärungen 2) gewissenhaft in Erwägung gezogen habe. 7 Die Grundlage für die Entwicklung der einheitlichen Absicht des Dialogs kann nur in einer genauen, von willkürlichen Zuthaten freien Analyse des Werkes gefunden werden; es wird jedoch für den vorliegenden Zweck genügen, den Gedanken gang des Dialogs in seinen Umrissen zu bezeichnen. Dies soll zu nächst in gedrängtester Kürze geschehen.
