Synopsis

Excerpt from The Garden God: A Tale of Two Boys

This last, certainly; for I have a sneaking fond ness for the very cobwebs that gather in the corners of a library. Last night I spent two or three delicious hours in looking over my own volumes, taking down one after another from the shelf, and slowly turning their leaves. Many of them, most of them in fact for my tastes have not greatly changed - I had loved in my boyhood, and these were, I confess, the ones I lingered over longest. And, in a sense, turning their pages again in the light of this darker-risen day was like holding up a lamp to the past; and the soft, gentle dust of the dead years fell all about me, floated in the air I breathed, delicate, sweet, and sad.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the intense and transformative power of a profound friendship between two boys, Graham and Harold, set against the backdrop of an English public school. Rooted in the classical ideals of Platonic philosophy, the narrative explores the complexities of love, loss, and the search for meaning in a world often at odds with youthful idealism. The author masterfully intertwines the protagonist's present experiences with his idyllic childhood memories and introspective reflections. Themes of innocence, beauty, and the enduring nature of true friendship are woven throughout the story, inviting readers to contemplate the profound impact of human connection on the shaping of individual identity. As Graham navigates the challenges of adolescence and grapples with societal expectations, his unwavering devotion to Harold becomes a guiding force, leading him on a journey of self-discovery and an exploration of the boundaries between reality and the ethereal realm of dreams. Ultimately, this book offers a poignant and thought-provoking meditation on the enduring power of love and friendship to transcend the limitations of time and circumstance, leaving an indelible mark on the human spirit.
