All'estremità della via in cui si entra oltrepassata appena la chiesa dei pf. Cappuccini in piazza Barberini, si vede un tempio per cui si ascende per due rampa di scale che fanno capo ad un portico riservato da cancelli di ferro. È questo dedicato al culto di S. Isidoro, agricoltore Spagnuolo, morto l'ultimo dinovernbre 1130, e canonizzato da Gregorio XV nel 1622, ed a quest'epoca risale l'origine e fondazione di questa chiesa, come eziandio dall'annesso convento. Venuti in Roma alcuni religiosi scalzi riformati di S. Francesco per fondarvi un ospizio pei procuratori di Spagna, delle Indie, e per rico vorarvi altri frati di quelle regioni, ottennero questo sito ove col concorso di larghe limosine date dal patrizio romano Ottavio Vestri Barbiani, e dalla gentil donna di casa Alaleoni vi edificaron0 il convento, e la chiesa con architettura di Antonio Casani dedicandola al suddetto santo. Decorsi però appena due anni il padre Luca Wadingo ottenne, con breve pontificio, il convento e l'ospizio annesso ove fondò il Collegio de' ff. Osservanti della nazione Irlandese, ove tuttora dimorano, ed hanno cura della chiesa.
