Excerpt from Syllabus and Notes of the Course of Systematic and Polemic Theology Taught in Union Theological Seminary, Virginia
The main design, next to the establishment of Divine Truth, has been to furn ish students in divinity, pastors, and intelligent lay-christians, a view of the whole field of Christian theology, without swelling the work to a size too unwieldy and costly for the purposes of instruction. Every head of divinity has received at least brief attention. The discussion is usually compact. The reader is requested to bear in mind, that the work is only styled Syllabus and Notes of a course in theology. The full expansion or exhaustive illustration of topics has not been promised. Hence unless the reader has already a knowledge of these topics derived from copious pre vions study, he should not expect to master these discussions by a cursory reading. He is candidly advertised that many parts will remain but partially appreciated, unless he shall find himself willing either to read enough of the authorities referred to in the Syllabus, to place him at the proper point of vievy or else to ponder the outline of the arguments by the efforts of mature and vigorous thought for himself, and thus\ fill out the full body of discussion.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the profound questions surrounding the existence and nature of God, drawing upon both natural reason and the insights of revealed theology. The author meticulously examines various arguments for God's existence, including the teleological argument, which infers design from the intricate workings of the natural world, and the ethical argument, which finds evidence of God in the human conscience. Exploring the historical and philosophical context of these arguments, the book engages with diverse perspectives, from ancient Greek philosophers to modern theologians. It critically analyzes opposing viewpoints, such as atheism and pantheism, offering compelling counterarguments. Through rigorous reasoning and thoughtful analysis, the author illuminates the profound implications of God's existence for our understanding of the universe and our place within it. The book's insights challenge readers to grapple with fundamental questions about the origin and purpose of life, the nature of morality, and the possibility of redemption. By shedding light on the intricate relationship between reason and revelation, it offers a compelling framework for understanding the divine and our relationship to the Creator. Ultimately, this book serves as a beacon of intellectual and spiritual exploration, inviting readers to deepen their understanding of God and the enduring significance of faith in a world filled with wonder and mystery.
