Excerpt from A Manual for the Classification, Training, and Education of the Feeble-Minded, Imbecile, and Idiotic
A book on a rational system of education of the feeble minded,' imbecile and idiotic, has long been required. It is well known that but a few of the unfortunate beings, for whose benefit such a work might be written, ever have the advantage of a carefully adapted training; and that the majority suffer both from unreasonable as well as from inefficient treatment. Believing that this unsatisfactory state of things arises from the want of sufficient and correct information, we offer, in the follow ing pages, the results of our experience.'
