Babylonicam in nubes usque efferre sunt conati; nam ex Ba bylonico crimine varietatem et confusionem linguarum ema nasse, sacris traditur scripturis. Ne tamen indices agamus nimis severos, cavendum certe est, neve obliviscamur, quo tempore calamitas illa Babylonica ingruerit in genus humanum, simul philologiae diem illuxisse natalem. Nisi enim temerarii illi mortales peccassent, philologis profecto deessct studiorum materia, quin immo ipsa Vivendi ratio neque laetissimi illi philologorum coetus celebrarentur, qui non minus scientiam, quam scientiae cultores mire recreant et ex mutuo doctorum virorum commercio, ui novae litteris vires accrescere possint perficiunt.
