Zu diesem Werke wurden einige hundert Handschriften von mehr als funfzig Bibliotheken benutzt, wobei ich jedoch ausdrücklich bemerke, dass diese Quellen nicht erschopft sind und'sich daher noch viele Nachträge ergeben werden, wenn man mit grösserer Musse die Handschriften durchforscht, als mir möglich war. Eine vollständige Durchsicht scheint besonders nothwendig für die Hand. Schriftenderjenigen Klöster, die viele und eigenthümliche Hymnen enthalten, wie z. B. Jene von S. Peter in Salzburg, weil ihre Lieder beweisen, dass und wie sich die Mönche mit geistlicher Dichtkunst beschäftigt haben.
