Kein Zweifel, dass ihre Urheber schaft das Verdienst der semitischen Akkader ist. Sie waren es, die das Bedürfnis empfinden mussten, die ihnen ganz fremde und doch für ihren religiösen Kultus in allen seinen Zweigen unentbehrliche sumerische Sprache von Grund aus zu erlernen und ihre Kenntnis fortzupflanzen von Generation zu Generation. Auch die Anordnung des Stoffes verrät, ob schon das Sumerische überall vorausgestellt ist, leicht er kennbar akkadischen Ursprung, wie ja die Begabung und Neigung der akkadischen Gelehrten für sprachliche Dinge aus den Synonymenverzeichnissen erhellt, die sie für ihr eigenes semitisches Idiom in grosser Anzahl verfassten. Was aber nicht minder unzweifelhaft und besonders bedeutsam scheint, ist dies, dass der Grundstock dieser Vokabulare bis in die Zeit zurückreichen muss, da Sumerer und Akkader friedliche gegenseitige Beziehungen unterhielten. Die Un summe detaillierter sumerischer Sprachkenntnisse, die in diesen Vokabularen aufgespeichert ist, kann nur aus einer Zeit da tieren, da die sumerische Sprache noch in lebendigem Cc brauch war und die akkadischen Schrift und Sprachgelehrten oder Priester aus dem lebendigen Quell mündlicher Belehrung seitens der sumerischen Priester schöpfen konnten'. Eben damit gewinnen diese Wörterbücher für die sumerische Lexiko graphie grundlegliche Bedeutung.
