Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the history of the American Temperance Movement from the early 19th century to the present day. The author traces the movement's origins in the religious revivals of the Second Great Awakening, and follows its development through the establishment of temperance societies, the passage of prohibition laws, and the eventual repeal of Prohibition in 1933. The book also examines the social and cultural factors that have shaped the Temperance Movement, including the role of women, the influence of science and medicine, and the impact of immigration. Ultimately, the book argues that the Temperance Movement has been a complex and multifaceted phenomenon, reflecting the changing values and beliefs of American society over time.
