Synopsis
This book is a persuasive discourse on the causes for the rise of Methodism, and the erosion of the influence of the established church. The author contends that the popularity of the Methodist preachers is in part due to the systemic apathy of the regular clergy and their failure to adapt their preaching to the needs of the community. The author examines the significance of community involvement in evangelicalism, and points to inadequate pastoral care as one of the reasons for the disaffection of the masses. Ultimately, the author concludes that the church must do more to address the social welfare of their members and tackle the need for a spiritually invigorated and unified Christian community.
