Synopsis

Discover how a family of artists, revolution, and royal favor shaped his work and legacy.

Horace Vernet comes alive through a portrait framed by a long artistic lineage and the turbulent times that influenced his painting. As the son of Carle Vernet, he grew up amid a family tradition of drawing and battle subjects, and his early world was deeply touched by the Revolution. The book traces how these experiences helped shape his approach to art and his rise in French art circles.
