The articles anonymously contributed by me to the Chronicle having excited somewhat of interest, and having been favorably noticed, I yielded to the desires of disinterested friends, and now bring them again before the public in a more extended form. I do it, however, with timidity, for to rewrite and rearrange the entire bulk of material was incompatible with my regular duties and feeble health. All that I could do since the first writing, was to add and improve here and there, in attempting to bring the work up to the most recent date.
