Por ser o nosso piloto novo nesta carreira, e ser esta a primeira vez que vinha do reino neste officio, por ser sempre cá na India de roteiro, e prumo, como cá dizem, e todos navegam, receou tanto, e mais do que devera, o sulaventear desta nao, que por ficar, se gundo elle dava por razão, bem a balravento do Cabo de Santo Agostinho, terra do Brazil, por a nao já o anno passado o não poder dobrar, e arribar delle ao reino, meteo-se tanto na terra da Costa de Guiné, que estivemos muito perto de acabar aqui todos, por ser inverno nesta paragem neste tempo, e partirmos tarde de Portugal, e virmos aqui ter na força delle, onde são tudo ventos do mar, que correm a terra, Sul, Su duéste e Susuduéste, tão rijos e de tantas chuvas e trovoadas, que andámos nesta paragem, bordo ao mar, bordo á terra, bons tres mezes, com nos adoecer toda a gente; com que passámos muitas e mui grandes en fermidades e enfadamentos.
