This book compiles a series of case studies from across the USA to showcase the methods used by home economics extension agencies to establish and run effective programs for educating home-makers on how to manage their homes more efficiently. The book provides insight into the challenges faced by communities across the country during the Great Depression and how educators adapted their programs to meet specific needs, such as the economic crisis and its effect on nutrition. The author emphasises the importance of considering each community's needs, economic conditions and resources when developing programs, and the importance of working with advisory councils, specialists and local leaders to ensure the program is useful to the community.
